Woody Orr, 86, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 24th at Northwest Alabama Hospital. He was born on April 9, 1938 and preceded in death to Floyd and Ollie Orr of Belgreen.
Woody was drafted and honorably discharged in the US Army stationed in Baltimore, MD. He spent most of his professional career and retired as an environmental engineer for Tennessee Valley Authority in 1993.
Woody made the most of retirement enjoying fishing with his son Robert on the Tennessee River & various lakes around Franklin County. Playing golf with his son Neal at Redmont Country Club where he was a member for many years and also when he visited him in NC. He enjoyed taking trips with his wife Juanez Orr and was by her side every waking moment during her battle with cancer. Woody was extremely proud of his grandchildren, Caroline and Katie and always eager to hear about their latest accomplishments.
He enjoyed growing tomatoes, making golf clubs, reading science fiction books and any British movie or television show. He was an avid fan of Gunsmoke, westerns & a vocabulary artist with southern cliches, numerous stories & vivid memories of his childhood.
Woody is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Cecil Orr and Ollie Elma Orr. His wife of 48 years Belva Juanez Orr. He is survived by two sons, Richard Neal Orr of Charlotte, NC and his wife Paula S. Orr. Robert Edward Orr of Phil Campbell, AL and his wife Teresa Orr, grandchildren Katie and Caroline.
The visitation will be held at Pinkard Funeral Home at 27305 Highway 24 East in Russellville, Alabama on Saturday, May 24th at 1:00 p.m. with services to follow. A graveside burial service will be held at Forest Grove Baptist Church in Tishomingo on Sunday, May 25th at 9:30 a.m. where he will rest in peace along side his dear wife Juanez.
