RED BAY, AL – Kelly Joe Moore, 71, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024 at UAB Hospital, Birmingham, AL. He was born in Russellville, AL to Richmond and Magdelene Moore. Kelly lived his life serving others. His career spanned sales, customer service and banking. He was known as Pops by his family as well as all the friends of his grandchildren and JoJo by all his golfing buddies at Redmont Country Club. Kelly  accepted Jesus as a young boy and was a charter member of Grace Methodist Church in Red Bay. He has been an active member of the Alabama Walk to Emmaus Community since 1999 where he lived out Matthew 20:28, “to serve, not to be served”. As a lay director, Kelly’s theme verse was “With God All Things Are Possible,” Matthew 19:26, words he believed with his whole heart.

Kelly was an avid Bama fan traveling nationwide from the Aloha Bowl in Honolulu to Penn State and to the Orange Bowl in Florida. For many years, if Bama was playing – Kelly was there. He was also a strong supporter of the Red Bay Tigers, remembered by many of his ringing “Touchdown Tigers!” as he assisted Jack Ivy with football broadcasts. Kelly had a lifelong passion for rv travel and cruising. He and his wife, Sally have visited almost every state and several foreign countries exploring our beautiful world. He saw beauty in nature and loved touring the national parks.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10, 6-8 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 11, 11 a.m. at Grace Methodist Church, 627 10th St. SE, Red Bay, AL with Bro. Eric Brown and Bro. Elliott Gordon officiating. He will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be in the Red Bay City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

Left to mourn him is his wife of fifty years, Sally Moore; a daughter, Shanna Moore Ozbirn and her fiancé, Randy Sanderson; granddaughters, Keylee Moore Allison (Trevor) of Russellville and Kyndell Ozbirn of Red Bay; his namesake, great-grandson, Travis Kelly Allison of Russellville, AL and one brother, Carlton Moore (Becky) of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Hal Keeton, Keith Kennedy, Harold Ledbetter, Mike Kennedy, Alan Bostick and Brooks Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be the CB&S Coffee Club and his Redmont Country Club golf buddies.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Grace Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1397, Red Bay, AL 35582.
