Herdis Glee Williams, Almost 92, of Vina, Alabama passed away peacefully at his home December 29, 2021.
Herdis was drafted at the tender age of 18. He was sent to basic training so he could adapt to war time. He fought in the Korean War on the front lines, with the 38th Parallel North, then he served as a Peace Ambassador. During his second term of service he was sent to Germany, where he was chosen by General Hutcheson to be his #1 driver. He received 2 Purple Hearts, which he returned because he said he had just done his job.
He is survived by his children, Tammy Lancaster (David), Linda Williams, David Williams (Angela), Larry Williams (Glenda), Ronnie Williams (Cindy), Kathy Coins (Terry), Brian Williams, Gloria Williams; 3 special grandsons that he spoiled by time spent with them, Manly Barksdale , Dalton Williams and Cody Williams, they were the apples of his eye; siblings, Ann Cantrell, Marion Wallace, Billy Joe Williams (Jane) and Bobby Williams (Denice); a host of many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dale Williams; son, Jeff Williams; daughter Jane Deese; parents, Claude and Iris Page Williams; siblings, Claudie Hudson, Gail Williams, James Williams and Herbert Williams.
Herdis will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He had the greatest love for all God’s people, during the Holidays as we were growing up, we always had a traveling stranger at our table, because our Daddy would ask them to join us for a great meal. One of his favorite quotes was, “You can do anything you want to as long as you want it bad enough. But always do your very best, nothing less and dress for success and look your best.”
Visitation will be Sunday January 2, 2022 from 11am until 1pm, in the chapel of Pinkard Funeral Home of Russellville, Alabama. The funeral service will follow visitation at 1pm, his grandsons Manly Barksdale and Dalton Williams will speak. Interment will be at Colbert Memorial Gardens in Tuscumbia.
Pallbearers will be Dalton Williams, Manly Barksdale, Ryan Lancaster, Daniel Lancaster, Elvin Ingram, Gary Yonson and Cody Williams.
