Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver is urging area residents to avoid parts of Hwy. 11 north of Red Bay and Hwy. 90 in the Pleasant Site community as massive flooding has damaged roadways and made unsafe driving conditions.

A severe thunderstorm dumped massive amounts of rain over parts of western Franklin County on Thursday. Deputies and area residents were reporting flooding on Hwy. 11 at the intersection of Jimmy Raper Road. Also, massive flooding on a portion of Hwy. 90 east of Hwy. 15. A flash flood warning remained in effect until about 5:45 p.m. in Franklin County. A tornado warning had been issued earlier in the afternoon as a strong storm passed through north central Franklin County, about 11 miles northeast of Red Bay, with radar-indicated rotation. No immediate reports of damage resulted from that warning, however.

Oliver urged area residents to avoid the areas until further notice.
