DENNIS, MS. – Avoe T. Pounders, 93, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a Christian and when she was able she attended a Baptist Church. For most of her working life she worked and was retired from Blue Bell in Tishomingo, Ms. She enjoyed music of all kinds but especially that of Elvis Presley. She lived near Tishomingo State Park and enjoyed visiting there. Many people have memories of her taking them swimming in her younger years.
Services will be Friday, February 5, at 11:30 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Steve Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a son – Tommy Pounders and wife, Kathleen, of Tishomingo, Ms.; a granddaughter – Dr. Melissa Pounders of Tishomingo, Ms.; a grandson – Gregory Pounders of Dennis, Ms.; a great-grandson – Justin Pounders of Tishomingo, Ms.; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters – Dimple Paden of Red Bay, Al. and Lavelle Thornburg of Amory, Ms. and a sister-in-law – Lillian Kent of Red Bay, Al.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge C. Pounders; her parents, Jim and Etta Kent; a son, Jimmy Pounders; a grandson, Craig Pounders, a great-grandson, Luke Pounders, one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Vernell Long, Carrie Farris and Nettie Roberts and a brother, Delmer Kent.
Pallbearers will be Justin Pounders, Michael Floyd, Tommy Floyd, Richard Pharr, Steve Thorne and Danny Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Gregory Pounders and George Gresham.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 4, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms.
