AN OLD RIDDLE asked, “What are Boston and I Chicago noted for?” and the answer was: “Boston is noted for boots and shoes and Chicago is noted for shoots and booze!”
TODAY’S PREACHMENT in the good ole Archway has to do with those Chicago attributes, which are now perhaps as descriptive of many other cities as they are of the windy one. Our nation’s capital, for instance, can now take its place alongside Chicago with the shooting of our president there last week.
SAME OLD SOLUTION EMERGES
EVERY TIME a president or some important person is shot, a certain Northeastern senator and a bunch of his liberal friends bring their solution for the problem out of the moth balls again. Isn’t their logic hilarious? All this killing can be stopped, they say, if only we stop the legal sales of handguns, or greatly curtail them. Rev. Billy Graham reminded us the first murderer, Cain, didn’t have a “Saturday night special.” And THIS time our liberal standard bearer has added a nice little touch.
WE NEED BETTER HANDGUNS?
HIGH QUALITY pistols would be perfectly all right, this (expletive deleted) politician seems to feel. Just the cheap ones, not accurate beyond 10 feet, are what he says should be prohibited. With the better gun, the killer should be more accurate, shouldn’t he? So, why shouldn’t we let him have one with which he might MISS? This fellow’s family amassed their millions importing the best quality Irish whiskey, didn’t they? I guess, then, it’s only natural he should be in favor of killers being sold the best quality guns.
AND, ABOUT THAT BOOZE …
A PUBLICATION of the Alabama Department of Mental Health states: “Murder is the twelfth leading cause of death in America and the fourth leading cause of death below the age of 30. Alcohol is implicated in over 70 percent of all murders and other violent crimes.”
THIS BEING THE CASE, it would seem more practical to outlaw the booze these American social leaders imported than to outlaw the guns he abhors so much. That’s even more true because of the other things the mental health publication mentions. They blame it for 20 percent of all falls, asphyxiations, drownings and freezings; 25 percent of chokings on food; 50 percent of fire deaths and 60 percent of fatal auto accidents and suicides, where it ranks tenth in the country among those under 30! Of course, prohibition didn’t work too well once, but it’s worth thinking of again, maybe. At least, it’s no crazier than outlawing just the CHEAP handguns.
Yours till the senator makes sense,
Ole Arch
